OL2000: Spelling Checker Does Not Check the Message Before It Is Sent (817407)



The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you reply to a message in Microsoft Outlook 2000, and you have the Always check spelling option selected, the spelling checker does not check the message before it is sent. You may receive a prompt from the spelling checker, but the spelling check is not completed.

In some instances, the spelling checker may find the first incorrect word, but the spelling checker quits after you click Ignore or Change.

CAUSE

This problem occurs under the following conditions:
  • You reply to an HTML message

    -and-
  • Your mail default is set to Plain Text

    -and-
  • One of the following conditions exists:
    • You have the Microsoft Defense Message System (DMS) installed.
    • You are using a custom form as the default message.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Outlook service pack that contains this hotfix.

When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Warning When you apply this fix, you not only update the fix files that are listed in this article, you also update security features of Microsoft Outlook. The update to the Outlook security features prevents Outlook from sending and receiving potentially malicious file attachments. The update also configures Outlook to warn you about any programmatic access to your Outlook Address Book.
