FIX: Access Violation in Visual Basic IDE During VSS Check-in or Check-out (817260)

SYMPTOMS

When you work on a project that uses type libraries, and the type libraries are maintained under source control by using Microsoft Visual SourceSafe (VSS), Access Violation errors may occur in Vb6.exe when you check in or check out the project file.

The most common file types that may contain type libraries have the following file name extensions:
  • TLB
  • OCX
  • DLL
  • OLB
  • EXE

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
