FIX: The FailFast service does not work and CPU usage increases when an internal error condition occurs in a COM+ program (817188)

    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP3

SYMPTOMS

If you are running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 3 (SP3) or Microsoft Windows 2000 SP3 and an unexpected internal error condition occurs in a Microsoft COM+ program, the FailFast service does not work and the CPU usage increases unexpectedly.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Stackwalker object in the FailFast service loops endlessly.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.
