Tasks for Shared Workspace Appear As HTML Code in the Workspace Pane (817098)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Excel 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you edit a task for a workbook that is located in a shared workspace, the task text is in raw HTML text instead of Rich Text Format (RTF).

If you modify or delete any of the HTML formatting tags in the task text, the tags and the data they enclose may be deleted from the task when you save it.

CAUSE

The problem occurs because the Shared Workspace pane does not support RTF, and can only display the text of the task in raw HTML text and code. The task information is stored on a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Team Services 2003 server in the Document Library that you created. When you save a task to the Document Library on the Windows SharePoint Team Services 2003 server, the results are processed according to a set of special rules that strips out invalid and malformed HTML tags. This is done to maintain the integrity of the data that is stored on the Windows SharePoint Team Services 2003 server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
