The Slide Show Orientation Changes When You Change the Screen Orientation on a Tablet PC (817074)

SYMPTOMS

If you switch the Tablet PC's screen orientation from landscape to portrait when you run a slide show, the slide show may also change its orientation from landscape to portrait. The change in screen orientation causes the slides of the presentation to appear sideways on the screen with substantial black space on either side of the slide.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you must create a registry key.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
Follow these steps, and then quit Registry Editor:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\PowerPoint\Options

  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD.
  4. Type SlideShowNoForceLandscape, and then press ENTER.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  6. Type 0, and then click OK.

The value 0 forces PowerPoint 2003 to always use the landscape orientation for its slide shows. The value 1 see comment the slide show orientation to change with the Tablet PC's screen orientation.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
