SUMMARYThis article describes the features of the Xbox Communicator.MORE INFORMATIONWe designed the Xbox Communicator to use with Xbox Live. The Xbox Communicator includes a base unit and a headset with a microphone. The base unit attaches to the expansion port on the Xbox controller. You can use it online to hear and to speak to other players who are also using Xbox Communicator headsets.
Note The Xbox Live Starter Kit includes an Xbox Communicator.
You must have an Xbox Communicator to use the voice features of Xbox Live. However, you can still use Xbox Live and play any supported games online without an Xbox Communicator if you do not want to use voice features.
Typically, you must have the Xbox Communicator to hear other players. However, some game titles provide voice transmission through TV speakers, but this is not typical.
The headset is a behind-the-head style headset. It has one earpiece that you can remove, and you can put the earpiece on either ear. Use the microphone and earpiece on the side that you find the most comfortable.
The base unit is a small device that you can plug in the top port on the Xbox controller. We designed the base unit to fit in the top port only. If you try to force it in the bottom port, you may damage the controller or the Xbox Communicator.
The headset plugs into a jack on the base unit. You can press a button on the top of the base unit to mute the microphone. If you mute the microphone, a red LED indicator light appears. If you enable the microphone, a green LED indicator light appears. You can control the headset volume by using the dial on the side of the base unit.
