BUG: User Name Mapping Cannot be Viewed on Domain Controller with Computer Name That Has 15 or More Characters (817024)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX 3.0

SYMPTOMS

Domain users are not listed in the User Name Mapping Administration after promoting a member server to domain controller. This problem occurs only if the name of the computer is 15 or more characters in length.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps to rename the server:
  1. Demote the server to a member server.
  2. Give the server a name that has fewer than 15 characters.
  3. Promote the server.
The User Name Mapping Administration will now list domain users.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
