SCSI Driver Is Not Updated After You Upgrade from Windows 2000 to Windows Server 2003 (816907)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade from Microsoft Windows 2000 to Windows Server 2003 on a computer with an Enterprise 1600 RAID controller, the original Windows 2000 miniport driver (Mraid2k.sys) may still be in use and is not upgraded to the Mraid35x.sys Inbox driver.

Note The Windows 2000 Mraid2k.sys miniport driver may also be used in several other adapters in Windows 2000-based systems.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the *.inf files have matching Plug and Play (PnP) IDs.

RESOLUTION

To successfully update the driver to the Mraid35x.sys Inbox driver, use one of the following methods.

Note The date of the driver installed by your installation of Windows 2000 will determine which method to follow. If the date of the driver is earlier than October 1, 2002, use Method 1. If the date of the driver is October 1, 2002 or later, use Method 2.

Determine the Driver Date

To determine the date of the driver, follow these steps:
  1. On the default Start menu, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.

    -or-

    On the classic Start menu, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Hardware tab.
  3. Click Device Manager.
  4. Expand SCSI and Raid controllers.
  5. Right-click the RAID controller that you want to update, and then click Properties.
  6. Click the Driver tab.
  7. Verify the driver date information under Driver Provider.

Method 1

  1. On the default Start menu, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.

    -or-

    On the classic Start menu, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Hardware tab
  3. Click Device Manager.
  4. Expand SCSI and Raid controllers.
  5. Right-click the RAID controller that you want to update, and then click Properties.
  6. Click the Driver tab.
  7. Click Update Driver.
  8. In the Hardware Update Wizard, click Next.

    Windows automatically updates the RAID controller driver to Mraid35x.sys.
  9. Click Finish, and then click Close..
  10. Close Device Manager.
  11. Close the System Properties dialog box..

Method 2

  1. On the default Start menu, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.

    -or-

    On the classic Start menu, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Hardware tab.
  3. Click Device Manager.
  4. Expand SCSI and Raid controllers.
  5. Right-click the RAID controller that you want to update, and then click Properties.
  6. Click the Driver tab.
  7. Click Update Driver.
  8. In the Hardware Update Wizard, click Install from a list or specific location [Advanced], and then click Next.
  9. Click Don't search. I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next.
  10. Select the RAID controller.
  11. Click Next.

    Windows now updates the RAID controller driver to Mraid35x.sys.
  12. Click Finish.

    You may be prompted to restart the computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
