SYMPTOMS

When you try to use your Xbox video game system, you may receive the following error message:

You need to connect the DVD Playback Kit receiver to a controller port to watch movies. Remove the disc to continue.

THINGS TO TRY

To troubleshoot this issue:
  1. Determine what type of media produced the error. If this error occurs with a DVD, you must have the DVD Movie Playback Kit to watch DVDs. If the problem occurs with games and with audio CDs, use the troubleshooting procedure for dealing with unrecognized discs.   2. If you have a DVD Movie Playback Kit, the kit may be malfunctioning.
  3. Determine whether the problem occurs with only one or two discs, or with more than two discs. If this problem occurs with one or two discs, search for known issues for that disc title.
  4. If no known issues exist, return the disc to the retailer where you made the purchase.
  5. If the problem occurs with more than two discs, turn the console off, turn it back on, and then try the disc again.
  6. If this does not resolve the issue, the DVD Movie Playback Kit may be faulty and you may have to replace the DVD Movie Playback Kit.
  7. If this does not resolve the issue and you replaced the DVD Movie Playback Kit, you may require Microsoft to service the console.
