FIX: Job May Be Terminated if There Are Bad Messages in the Queue (816772)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for MQSeries 1.0

SYMPTOMS

If there are bad messages (such as messages that are not formatted correctly) in the queue on the computer running IBM MQSeries Server, the read operation of the BizTalk Server Adapter for MQSeries fails and you receive an error HR code. However, these bad messages are still in the queue. Therefore, the next read operation also fails and you receive the previous error HR code again. This problem continues until the FailureThreshold value is reached, and then the worker thread (Job) is terminated. In this scenario, two bad messages can disable the worker thread (Job).

When the message format is bad, BizTalk Server Adapter for MQSeries logs the following error several times, and then the worker thread is terminated: Reason code 2110 is MQRC_FORMAT_ERROR.

A worker thread reported a failure: MQSeries: An error occurred in Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for MQSeries. The MQSeries reason code is 2110. Please refer to MQSeries documents for more information on this error.

The error code is stored in Data.
The operation was: IWorker3->Work
The worker thread was working on:
Machine: ComputerName
Queue Manager: RETURN
Transmission Queue: XMIT_RETURN

NOTE: Because of file dependencies, the most recent hotfix or feature that contains these files may also contain additional files. After you apply this hotfix, BizTalk Server Adapter for MQSeries moves unreadable messages to a dead letter queue, and then continues to process good messages.

Install Instructions

Note You must apply this hotfix to an installation of BizTalk Server Adapter for MQSeries that does not have any other hotfixes applied to it. If you have applied earlier hotfixes, you must first roll back to the original version of the application to remove the earlier hotfixes.
  1. Stop the BizTalk Adapter for MQSeries service.
  2. In Component Services, remove the MQHelper COM component from the BizTalk Adapter for MQSeries COM+ application.
  3. Install the Btsmqs_q816772.exe fix. You receive a prompt to restart the server.
  4. Add MQHelper COM+ components to the BizTalk Adapter for MQSeries COM+ application by using the new binary file (C:\Program Files\Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for MQSeries\Mqhelper.dll). Verify that the Transaction property is set to Required and the Concurrency property is set to Required.
  5. Replace the original version Active Server Pages (ASP) pages that are located in the BizTalk folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft BizTalk Server\MessagingManager\Pipeline) with the ASP pages that are located in the .zip file (Aicmq_mqpipeline_1.asp and Aicmq_mqpipeline_1_post.asp).
  6. Add the registry DWORD value UseDeadLetterQueue under the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\BizTalk Adapter For MQSeries\MQHelper

Set the value of UseDeadLetterQueue to 1.
  7. Create a local queue on the computer running MQSeries Server. Specify this queue as the dead letter queue for the queue manager. You can do this on the Extended tab of Properties for the queue manager.
