You Receive a "Microsoft Java VM 5.0 or Higher Required" Error Message When You Try to Install Content Management Server (816717)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, when used with:
    • Microsoft Content Management Server 2002
    • Microsoft Content Management Server 2001
  • Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003, Premium Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003, Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Content Management Server (MCMS) 2002 or MCMS 2001 on a Windows Server 2003-based system, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Required 3rd party component status: Failure. No Java VM is installed. Microsoft Java VM 5.0 or higher required.

-or-

Microsoft Java VM 5.0 or higher required. (Needed by Site Manager, Site Stager)

CAUSE

This issue occurs because MCMS installs a version of Site Manager or Site Builder that uses the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine. The Java Virtual Machine is not included with Windows Server 2003.

RESOLUTION
