Cannot remove SQL Server CE Server Tools from a computer running Windows Server 2003 (816629)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition 2.0, when used with:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
SYMPTOMSIf you try to remove SQL Server CE 2.0 Server Tools from a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, the server tools are not removed, and you receive the following error message: Fatal error
during installation. Additionally, if you try to upgrade SQL
Server CE 2.0 Server Tools by clicking Remove SQL Server CE Server
Tools in the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition
2.0 Wizard, the upgrade is not successful, and you receive the following error message: Installation
Incomplete Note The Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition 2.0 Wizard is the upgrade wizard. WORKAROUNDTo work around the problem, create a SQL Server CE virtual
directory. To do so, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to
Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server CE
2.0, and then click Configure Connectivity Support in
IIS.
- In the right pane of the SQL Server CE Connectivity
Management window, double-click Create a
Virtual Directory.
- Follow the instructions in the Virtual Directory Creation Wizard to create the SQL Server CE virtual
directory.
