To Bind or Unbind a Network Component

To bind or unbind a network client, protocol, or service, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, point to Network Connections, right-click the connection that you want to configure, and then click Properties.
2. Do one of the following:
   • For a local area connection, click the General tab. In the This connection uses the following items list, click to select the check box for the client, protocol, or service that you want to bind; or click to clear the check box for the client, protocol, or service that you want to unbind.
   • For a dial-up, virtual private network (VPN), or incoming connection, click the Networking tab. In the This connection uses the following items or the Network Components list, click to select the check box for the client, protocol, or service that you want to bind; or click to clear the check box for the client, protocol, or service that you want to unbind.
3. Click OK.

To Install a Network Component

To install a network client, protocol, or service and add it to the list of network components, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, point to Network Connections, right-click the connection that you want to add a network component to, and then click Properties.
2. Do one of the following:
   • For a local area connection, click the General tab, and then click Install.
   • For a dial-up, virtual private network (VPN), or incoming connection, click the Networking tab, and then click Install.
3. In the Click the type of network component you want to install box, click the type of network component that you want do install, and then click Add.
4. Click the network component that you want to install, and then follow the remaining on-screen instructions to install the network component.

To Remove a Network Component

To remove a network client, protocol, or service from your computer, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, point to Network Connections, right-click the connection that you want to remove a network component from, and then click Properties.
2. Do one of the following:
   • For a local area connection, click the General tab. In the This connection uses the following items list, click the network component that you want to remove from the computer, and then click Uninstall.
   • For a dial-up, virtual private network (VPN), or incoming connection, click the Networking tab. In the This connection uses the following items or the Network Components list, click the client, protocol, or service that you want to remove, and then click Uninstall.
3. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the removal.
4. Follow the remaining on-screen instructions to remove the network component from your computer.
