By default, when you click
Open on the
File menu in an Office program, the
Add/Modify FTP
Locations option appears in the
Look in list box in
the
Open dialog box. (Likewise, when you click
Save
As on the
File menu, the
Add/Modify FTP
Locations option appears in the
Save in list box in
the
Save As dialog box.) If you do not want the
Add/Modify FTP Locations option available to users when they
open or save a file, you can remove the option from the list.
Part 1: Download and Install the Update (Office XP Only)
Note You do not need to download any files to activate the hotfix in Office 2003 applications. If you are running an Office 2003 application, please see the instructions in the "Part 2: Activate the Update" section.

The global version of this hotfix has the file
attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and
times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you
view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the
difference between UTC and local time, use the
Time Zone tab
in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Part 2: Activate the Update
Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
- Exit your version of Office.
- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click to select one of the following registry keys, depending on the version of the product that you are using:
- For Office 2003 applications, locate and then click to select HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common.
- For Office XP applications, locate and then click to select HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Common.
- After you select the key that is specified in step 3, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD.
- Type RemoveFTPLocationsFromLookIn, and then press ENTER.
- Right-click RemoveFTPLocationsFromLookIn, and then click Modify.
- In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
- On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
