Cannot Type Modem AT Commands in HyperTerminal (816489)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you try to type a modem initialization command (AT) in the command window of HyperTerminal, you may be able to type only the first character of the modem AT command.

Note Modem AT commands sent by a Telephony Application Programming Interface (TAPI) application to initialize the modem work fine.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if both of the following conditions are true:
  • Hyper-Threading is enabled on your computer.

    -and-
  • The AGERE SoftModem driver is installed on the computer.

WORKAROUND

To prevent this problem from occurring, turn off Hyper-Threading.
