Unattended Hotfix Installation Is Not Successfully Completed (815418)



The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Update.exe program to perform an unattended installation of a hotfix, the hotfix may not be successfully installed. Additionally, you may not receive an error message that informs you that the installation was not successful.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the user account that you use to install the hotfix does not have permissions on the drive that Update.exe is trying to write the installation files to.

The version of Update.exe that is included with your hotfix may write these files to the drive that contains the most available free disk space.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, make sure that you have permissions on all available drives before you run an unattended hotfix installation.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
