Session Summary
This Support WebCast will talk about how to set up
Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) SP1 to best meet your monitoring
requirements. This session will also provide tips for MOM settings for
grooming, agent manager settings, buffer settings, and communication settings
for the best possible operational performance, and usage practicality. The
topics will include an architectural overview, how to build a reliable MOM
infrastructure using alert forwarding, multihoming, using multihoming for
automatic database disaster recovery, auto failover for DCAMs, SQL Cluster
database recovery, building a scalable MOM infrastructure, and the new and
improved scaling limitations for MOM SP1. The discussion of management and
maintenance will include information about database, event storms, management
packs, operations and organizational policies, archive database setup, and
maintenance. The final topics are reporting and miscellaneous tips for MOM SP1.
This is a

200 session that was recorded March 25, 2003, and presented by Steve
Adrien DeLuca and Glen Houghton. Steve Adrien DeLuca is a Program Manager
responsible for developing performance tools. He has been working in the MOM
development team as a performance engineer since the beginning of the MOM
project two and one-half years ago, and wrote the "Performance and Sizing"
white paper, and various Database Sizers that support the MOM product. Steve
has written four books on database performance and administration for Microsoft
Press and has received 13 patents for work in Capacity Planning and
Performance. Steve also currently supports the database curriculum, and is on
the database education advisory board at University of Washington extended
education program. Glen Houghton has been at Microsoft for more than three
years and is a QFE Engineer in the MOM Product group. Previously he was a
Support Professional for Systems Management Server and MOM. He was also a Beta
Engineer for MOM. Glen has more than 10 years experience in the computer
industry and has been involved in supporting end users and also large-scale
consulting for multimillion dollar projects.
