BUG: "Visual Studio .NET has expired" error message when you install Visual Studio .NET (814702)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Visual Studio .NET (2003), Enterprise Architect Edition
  • Microsoft Visual Studio .NET (2003), Enterprise Developer Edition

SYMPTOMS

Assume that you have an expired install of Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, Trial Edition (or a Beta version of Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, Enterprise Architect Edition) installed on your computer. When you install a full released version of Visual Studio .NET, you do not receive any warning messages. However, when you start Visual Studio .NET, you may receive the following error message:
Visual Studio .NET has Expired.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, remove Visual Studio .NET, Trial Edition (or the Beta release version of Visual Studio .NET) from your computer.

Note Microsoft recommends that you remove any Beta versions of Visual Studio .NET before you install the released version of Visual Studio .NET. You can use the Add/Remove Programs utility in Control Panel to remove the Beta version.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Verify that you have an expired install of Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, Trial Edition (or a Beta version of Microsoft Visual Studio .NET) on your computer.
  2. Install Microsoft Visual Studio .NET.
  3. When the installation of Visual Studio .NET is completed, start Visual Studio .NET.
