Monitor, Rules, and Configuration Views Missing In Default MOM Console (814628)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you use the default Microsoft Management Console (MMC) that is installed with Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM), the top views may be missing. For example the views for Monitor, Rules and Configuration may not appear in the administrator console.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, add the missing views to a new administrator console. To save the views to a new console, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type mmc.exe, and then click OK.
  2. Click the Console menu, and then click Add/Remove Snap-in.
  3. Click Add.
  4. In the Add Standalone Snap-in window, select Microsoft Operations Manager, and then click Add.
  5. By default, the Monitor, Rules, and Configuration views should all be selected. If they are not selected, click each view to add them to the new MOM console, and then click Finish.
  6. In the Add Standalone Snap-in window, click Close, and then click OK in the Add/Remove Snap-in window.
  7. After the MOM Console opens successfully, save the new console.
  8. Click File, and then click Save As.

Save the file as a Microsoft Management Console file (.msc).
You can modify the existing MOM Console shortcut to point to the new .msc file. To edit the existing shortcut, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Programs, and then click Microsoft Operations Manager.
  2. Right-click the shortcut for the MOM administrator console, and then click Properties.
  3. Edit the Target field to point to the directory and the .msc file that you created in the previous steps.
  4. To save the changes, click OK.
