Error 1935 When You Install Multilanguage User Interface Pack on Windows 2003 (814340)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install the multilanguage user interface (MUI) pack on Windows 2003, you receive the following error message:

Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if a new copy of Windows 2003 is installed onto the same partition as a previous MUI version of Windows. When Windows 2003 is installed, the Mfc42.dll.mui file is deleted; however the MUI folder is not. This folder causes the MUI installation to fail.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, delete the MUI folder and then install the MUI. To do this, follow these steps:

In Windows Explorer, locate the following folder, where drive is the drive where Windows is installed:
drive: \Windows\WinSXS\x86_Microsoft.Tools.VisualCPlusPlus.Runtime-Libraries.mui_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.0.0_de-DE_7ee233d5
Right-click the folder, and then click Delete.
Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
Install the MUI.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
