You receive an error message when you use the "Edit with Microsoft Word" command in Word 2003 (813981)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Word 2003
SYMPTOMSWhen you open a document in Microsoft Internet Explorer, and
then you try to edit the document with Microsoft Word by using the Edit
with Microsoft Word command on the Internet Explorer File
menu, you receive the following error message: The
function you are attempting to run contains macros or content that requires
macro language support. When this software was installed, you (or your
administrator) chose not to install support for macros or controls.
CAUSEThis behavior may occur if both the following conditions are
true:
- Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is not
installed on your computer.
-and- - The document that you are trying to open is already open in
Word.
WORKAROUND To work around this issue, quit all instances of Word, and
then do one of the following:
- Open the document in Internet Explorer, and then on the
File menu, click Edit with Microsoft
Word.
-or- - Start Word, and then open the document.
STATUS Microsoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
