Pocket PC 2002: E-Mail does not sync correctly (813787)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PC 2002
- Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PC 2003
SYMPTOMSIf
you use Microsoft ActiveSync to synchronize
mail between a Pocket PC device and Microsoft Outlook, you may experience
the following symptoms:
- Messages that are
moved
in Outlook from the Inbox to another folder (including the
Deleted Items folder) are not removed from the Pocket PC
Inbox during synchronization until the
message is permanently deleted
from Outlook.
- Messages that you delete on
the Pocket PC are deleted in Outlook, as expected,
during synchronization.
This issue may
occur if the mobile device has two partnerships. Even
though the Inbox synchronizes
with only one Pocket PC device, the changes do not correctly synchronize
with that device. This problem does not always occur with Pocket PC 2002. The
problem may occur, for example, when Outlook connects to Post Office Protocol,
Version 3 (POP3) accounts on
the host desktop computer. Note This problem does not occur with Pocket PC 2000. CAUSEThis behavior is caused by a problem with the Pocket PC
Inbox. This is not an ActiveSync software
problem.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, manually delete the messages from
the Outlook Deleted Items folder. When you do so, ActiveSync
removes the deleted messages from the Pocket PC Inbox during
sync. You can also set Outlook to automatically empty the
Deleted Itemsfolder when you exit Outlook. For more
information about this option, see the Empty Deleted Items
folder in Outlook Help. An alternative
resolution is to re-create the primary partnership, and then do not use a
second partnership. To re-create the primary partnership, follow these steps:
- Connect the mobile device to the Pocket PC where you want
the Inbox sync to occur.
- Disconnect the mobile device.
- On the File menu, click Delete
Partnership.
- Reconnect the Pocket PC device, and then you receive a prompt to
create a partnership.
- When you create the partnership, click Only with
this computer so that the existing partnerships are deleted.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
