SYMPTOMS

When you use an administrator account to install Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition, and then start any Plus! Digital Media Edition program, the Plus! Product Activation Wizard starts, and you receive the following message:
Before you can use Microsoft Plus! Digital Media Edition on this computer, it must first be activated by a computer administrator. Plus! Digital Media Edition uses Microsoft Product Activation to help prevent software piracy.

Please have an administrator run Plus! Digital Media Edition on this machine and go through the Microsoft Plus! Product Activation Wizard. Once that is complete, you will be able to run Plus! Digital Media Edition normally.
When you click Finish, the Plus! Product Activation Wizard closes. Although you are logged on as an administrator, you cannot continue to run the Plus! Product Activation Wizard.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the administrator registry permissions on the computer are not valid and you cannot write to the registry keys.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. 2. Right-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and then click Permissions.
  3. In the Group or user names box, click Administrators. In the Permissions for Administrators box, click to select the Full Control and Read check boxes under Allow.
  4. In the Group or user names box, click Everyone. In the Permissions for Everyone box, click to select the Read check box under Allow.
  5. Click Apply, click OK, and then quit Registry Editor.
  6. Start any Plus! Digital Media Edition program. When the Plus! Product Activation Wizard starts, activate Plus! Digital Media Edition.
