You receive a "Could not find a contact with this e-mail address" error message when you use the "Look Up Contact" feature in Outlook 2003 (813607)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2003

For a Microsoft Outlook 2002 version of this article, see 292883.

SYMPTOMS

When you receive an e-mail message from a Microsoft Exchange user, right-click the user's name in the To field, and then click Look Up Contact, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Could not find a contact with this e-mail address.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Look Up Contact feature searches the Local Contacts folder and does not search the Global Address List.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, search the Global Address List for the contact name. To do so, double-click the name in the To field of the e-mail message.
