PRB: Pocket PC 2002 Emulator Driver Remains Installed After You Remove Visual Studio .NET 2003 (813580)

When you remove Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 from your computer, the driver for the Pocket PC 2002 Emulator remains installed unless you manually remove it. After you remove Visual Studio .NET 2003, you may find the following entry in the Currently installed programs list under Add or Remove programs (in Control Panel): Emulator Driver for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you must manually remove Emulator Driver for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003. To remove Emulator Driver, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. In the Currently installed programs list, click Emulator Driver for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003, and then click Remove.
  4. Follow the instructions to remove Emulator Driver.

This behavior is by design.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior
  1. Install Visual Studio .NET 2003.
  2. On the Toolsclick Connect to Device. Select Pocket PC as the Platform, and then click Pocket PC 2002 Emulator (Default). Click Connect.
    - or -
    Create a Smart Device Application in Microsoft Visual Basic .NET or Microsoft Visual C# .NET, and then click Start on the Debug menu.
  3. Point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  4. In Control Panel , double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  5. In the Currently installed programs, click Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003.
  6. Click Remove to remove Visual Studio .NET 2003 from your computer.
  7. Follow the instructions for removal.

    You may find the Emulator Driver for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 entry under Currently installed programs in Add or Remove programs.
