WMP9: ActiveX Player Downloads SAMI File Together with Media Stream (813388)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows 98 Second Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows Millennium Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows XP

SYMPTOMS

When a media stream is played through an ActiveX control on your Web site, the Windows Media Player ActiveX control tries to download a Synchronized Accessible Media Interchange (SAMI) file together with the media stream.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if all the following conditions exist:
  • Your Web page is using the Windows Media Player 6.4 ActiveX control.
  • Your Web page has Captions and Subtitles set to On.
  • The person who is playing the media stream has Windows Media Player 9 installed on their computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, set the following parameter for the Windows Media Player ActiveX control on your Web page to false:
