Encoder server page stops responding when the server loses its connection (813344)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows XP
  • Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 9 Series

SYMPTOMS

When you are streaming data to a Microsoft Windows Media Server by using Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 9, and the server loses its connection, you may eventually receive an error message that is similar to the following error message:
There is no connection established with the Windows Media server. The operation failed. (0xC00D0005)

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, make sure that the network between the encoder and the server is reliable. If the encoder loses the connection to the server, avoid switching to the Server tab. You can verify the server information by connecting to the server remotely, or you can verify the information after the connection is reestablished.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

When you push a stream to a Microsoft Windows Media server, the Server tab of the Monitor panel displays status information about the server. When the connection to the server is dropped, the Monitor stops responding (hangs). Nothing appears on "server" page, and you cannot switch to other pages. The encoding continues, and you can still connect a player to port 8080 for audio and video. If connection to the server is re-established, the page appears as expected. Although the "server" page is working correctly after the connection is re-established, the push distribution may be stopped and cannot be resumed. Users can connect to port 8080 only when they set up a push and pull session. If the user only has push, the encoder stops about 30 seconds after the encoder loses the connection to the server.
