XCCC: Unexpected Delay When You Retrieve Header Fields of E-mail Messages (813236)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5
  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

When you try to retrieve the message header field from an e-mail message by using the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) protocol, the field takes longer than expected to download.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • The message that you are trying to retrieve has a large header field or contains a large attachment.

    -and-
  • You use the FETCH command to retrieve the field.

MORE INFORMATION

The FETCH command retrieves the whole e-mail message. The FETCH command does not retrieve individual fields. When you try to retrieve a single field from a message, the e-mail message and any attachments are downloaded before the individual field is available.
