PPT2002: You Are Prompted to Resave Your Presentation When You Resume Your Computer (813207)

SYMPTOMS

If your computer enters hibernation while a PowerPoint presentation is open, you may receive the following message when you resume your computer:The file you were working with was modified during suspend Mode, and the original is no longer available. path\file_name.ppt must be resaved.However, if you then click Save Now, you cannot save your presentation to its original file name.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you use a laptop computer and you have already saved the presentation at least two times. The presentation file unexpectedly becomes a read-only file when the computer enters hibernation.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. After the hotfix is installed, the English version of this fix will have the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, type a new file name after you click Save Now to save your presentation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.
