Padding of Scheduled Recording Lost When Removing a Following Scheduled Recording (813189)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you remove a show that conflicts with the end of the first scheduled recording, the padding of the first scheduled recording may be lost.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when all the following conditions are true:
  • You add padding to the first show to permit extra time (for example, an overtime period for a sporting event) for the scheduled recording.

    -and-
  • The end time of the first scheduled recording conflicts with the start time of the second recording.

    -and-
  • You remove the second scheduled recording.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, reset the padding for the show you want. To do this, follow these steps and press the appropriate button on your remote control:
  1. Press Start (the green button).
  2. Select Settings. To do this, press Down, and then press OK.
  3. Select TV/DVD, and then press OK.
  4. Select Recorder, and then press OK.
  5. Select Scheduled, and then press OK.
  6. Select the show whose padding you want to restore, and then press OK.
  7. Press Right arrow to select Frequency.
  8. Select Stop, and then adjust the Stop setting to what you want.
  9. Select Change, and then press OK.
  10. Press My TV.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When you add padding to a scheduled recording, Media Center may not notify you of a conflict (this problem depends on the padding you add). Media Center compares the start and end times in the Program Guide, and automatically shortens the padding to permit the recording of the scheduled show that conflicts with the padding you added.

The Recordings.xml file is updated with the current information including the removal or shortening of any padding that is added to the first show. When you cancel (remove) the recording of the second show, the Recordings.xml file updates again. Because of this process, you may lose the padding information that you added to the first show.
