XADM: E-mail Sent Using Public Folder Address Returned With NDR (812216)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
- Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5
SYMPTOMSWhen you try to send an e-mail message to a public folder by
using the alias of the public folder in the From field, the e-mail may not be
sent and a non-delivery report (NDR) that is similar to the following is
created: The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
Public Folder's e-mail address. The message reached
the recipient's e-mail system, but delivery was refused. Attempt to re-send the
message. If it still fails, contact your system
administrator. CAUSEThis issue occurs because of the enhanced security that is
provided in Exchange 2000 Server. On Exchange Server 5.5, the From field was
not verified in all scenarios, and in Exchange 2000 Server this behavior has
been changed. If the account that is listed in the From field is not listed on
the access control list (ACL) of the public folder, the access is determined to
be anonymous. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, grant the anonymous account
contributor permission on the public folder. MORE INFORMATIONThe public folder has recently been rehomed from an Exchange
Server 5.5 to an Exchange 2000 Server. When the public folder was homed on the
Exchange Server 5.5, the e-mail message was sent without
difficulty.
