Cannot Obtain Access to an FTP Server From Behind a Proxy Server 2.0-Based Proxy Server (812078)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0

SYMPTOMS

When you try to connect to an FTP server from behind a Proxy Server 2.0-based proxy server, you may be not able to do so even though you have access to Web sites on the Internet. You may also experience the following symptoms:
  • When you try to use FTP commands, the requests may time out.
  • When you try to use Microsoft Internet Explorer to connect to the FTP site, you may receive a Dr. Watson error message that is similar to the following:
    Inetinfo.exe application error.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Microsoft Proxy Client 2.0 program is not installed on the client computer. You must have the proxy client to connect to FTP sites through a Proxy Server 2.0-based proxy server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install and configure the Microsoft Proxy Client 2.0 program on the client computer. To do so, run Setup.exe from the \\Servername\mspclnt share, where Servername is the name of the proxy server.
