XADM: Search for Text in Message Body Is Unsuccessful If the Message Is Signed (811820)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
SYMPTOMSWhen you use
the Search functionality
to search for text in the body of a signed message in
Microsoft Outlook or extended MAPI, Search may not return any results even though you know the text is present in the body of the message. CAUSEThis behavior occurs because the body of a signed message is
delivered as an attachment. Search cannot find
content in the attachments unless Full-Text Indexing is turned on. WORKAROUNDTo work around this behavior, turn on Full-Text Indexing in
Exchange 2000 in each mailbox store:
- Log on to Exchange 2000 as Exchange Server
Administrator.
- Click Start, point to
Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and
then click System Manager.
- Expand Servers, and then expand
Server Name.
- Expand First Storage Group, and then
click Mailbox Store.
- Right-click Mailbox Store, and then click
Create Full-Text Index.
- Type the location to create the catalog.
- Start the Indexing Services snap-in.
- Right-click Indexing Services, point to
New, and then click Catalog.
- Type the path of the catalog that you created in step 6.
- Restart Indexing Services.
- To verify that Full-Text Indexing is turned on:
- Expand Servers, and then expand
Server Name.
- Expand First Storage Group, and then
expand Mailbox Store.
- Make sure that a container named Full-Text
Indexing appears.
- Repeat steps 4 through 11 for each mailbox store to turn on Full-Text Indexing on each mailbox store.
- Right-click each mailbox store, and then click
Start Full Population.
STATUS This
behavior is by design.
