Windows quits unexpectedly when you try to play a DVD (811419)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to play a DVD on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows may quit unexpectedly.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the DrvWriteDisplayDriverParameters function is called when you try to play the DVD, and then a NULL devmode value is passed to the ChangeDisplaySettingsEx function. An uninitialized value in the DrvChangeDisplaySettings function may cause an access violation in the DrvWriteDisplayDriverParameters function if a NULL devmode value is passed to the ChangeDisplaySettingsEx function.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
