An embedded form is removed from messages sent through the Lotus Notes connector (811115)

SYMPTOMS

When you send a message that contains an embedded form through the Exchange 2000 Server Lotus Notes Connector, the message that the recipient receives may be blank. Although the embedded form is removed from the message, an error is not logged. However, if you forward the message that contains the form to the Exchange 2000 Server recipient, the form may be received by the recipient.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Lotus Notes connector was not designed to handle the embedding of forms in a message. The data inside the form is stored under a property named "$Body". A typical message has its body in the "Body" property. When you forward the message from the Lotus Notes client, the message is converted to a memo, and the $Body field is contained in a field that is named "Body". Because of this conversion, the message is received correctly by the recipient.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server service pack that contains this hotfix.

When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

This update does not provide general Lotus Notes form support through the Lotus Notes connector and is not designed to support any and all Lotus Notes forms. The Lotus Notes connector was designed to provide support for the Lotus Notes Mail and Calendar functions. This update is limited to providing support for forms where the "$Body" field is specified in the message instead of the default usage of the "Body" field.
