SYMPTOMS

When you open a presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint 2000, you may experience one of the following symptoms:
  • If the presentation was created in Microsoft PowerPoint 4 or in Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows 95, the last character in some text boxes may not appear correctly or the character may be missing.
  • In the Japanese version of PowerPoint 2000, the last character in some text boxes may not appear correctly or the character may be missing when you view the presentation in Slide Show view.

RESOLUTION

Download and install the hotfix

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Office 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

Activate the hotfix

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To activate the hotfix, follow these steps:
  1. Quit PowerPoint 2000.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click to select the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\PowerPoint\Options

  4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  5. Type EnumFontsAtLoad, and then press ENTER.
  6. Right-click EnumFontsAtLoad, and then click Modify.
  7. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  8. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
This fix is a post-Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3) fix. To install the fix, you must have Office 2000 SP-3 installed. For additional information about Office 2000 SP-3, click the following article number to see the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
