SUMMARY

This article describes how to reactivate the printer test.

MORE INFORMATION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

The first time you print on both sides of the paper(a duplex print job) from one of the programs that is listed at the beginning of this article to a printer that is not listed in the Windows registry, you may be prompted to complete a five-step printer test. When you complete the test, your printer is listed in the Windows registry, and is automatically configured for any future duplex print jobs. When the printer becomes listed in the Windows registry, you are no longer prompted to complete the printer test. A problem may occur if you do not complete the printer test correctly. In this case, your printer may not be able to perform a duplex print job properly, because the printer may be configured incorrectly. You cannot resolve this issue by reinstalling your program.

This article describes how to reactivate the printer test so that you can complete the printer test again to correctly configure the printer. To reactivate the printer test:

Important Do not delete the ManualDuplex key in the Windows Registry. If this key has been deleted and the program is not reinstalled, all the preset printer codes are removed from the computer. When you try to use the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control Panel to remove the program, only the printer codes that are installed with the program under the ManualDuplex key are removed.
  1. Quit all currently-running programs.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  4. In Registry Editor, click the following registry key:

    HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Picture It\7.0\ManualDuplex

    .
  5. In the list of printers, click the name of your printer.
  6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  7. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
  8. Quit Registry Editor.
