RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.
Method 1: Update Your Display Driver
Contact your video hardware manufacturer to obtain and install the
latest version of the driver for your video adapter. You may also visit the
following Microsoft Windows Update Web site to see if applicable driver updates
are available:
To identify the name and manufacturer of your video adapter,
follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click
Run.
- In the Open box, type
dxdiag, and then click OK.
- Click the Display tab.
- Under Device, look for
Name and Manufacturer.
Click
Exit.

Method 2: Copy Fonts from the Age of Mythology CD-ROM to the Age of Mythology
Folder on the Hard Disk
Part 1: Copy the Files from the CD-ROM to the Hard Disk
- Hold down the SHIFT key, and then insert Disc 1 into your
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
- Click Start, and then click
Run.
- In the Open box, type
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
drive:\AOM\Fonts.
- On the Edit menu, click Select
All.
- Click Edit, and then click
Copy.
- Close the folder.
- Locate the following folder:
C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Mythology\Fonts
- On the Edit menu, click
Paste.
- When you are prompted, click overwrite all existing
files.
- On the Edit menu, click Select
All.
- On the File menu, click
Properties.
- Click to clear the Read-only check box,
and then click OK.
- Right-click Arial unicode ms.msk, and
then click Delete.
When you are prompted, click
Yes to confirm the deletion. - Repeat step 13 to delete each of the following files:
- Courier new.msk
- Courier new.msk
- Friz quadrata tt.msk
- Giovanni book.msk
- Giovanni test.msk
- Giovanniitctt.msk
- Imeuisettings.xml
- Times new roman.msk
Part 2: Rename the Files on the Hard Disk
The files on the CD are named in the 8.3 format, and you must
rename those files to the long file name (LFN) format after you copy the files
to the hard disk:
- Right-click Arialu_1.msk, and then click
Rename.
- In the box that appears, type arial unicode
ms.msk, and then press ENTER.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2 to rename each font file. Use the
following new names:
- Courie_1.msk - Courier new.msk
- Frizqu_1.msk - Friz quadrata tt.msk
- Giovan_1.msk - Giovanni book.msk
- Giovan_2.msk - Giovanni test.msk
- Giovan_3.msk - Giovanniitctt.msk
- Imeuis_1.xml - Imeuisettings.xml
- Timesn_1.msk - Times new roman.msk
If this does not resolve the issue, go to Method 3.
Method 3: Reinstall
Georgia Font Files from the CD-ROM
Note On some original equipment manufacturer (OEM) systems, the fonts
folder is file-protected. To see if the fonts folder is file-protected and to
change this setting:
- Open the fonts folder (tyically
C:\Windows\Fonts).
- Click File. If the command Install
New Font is unavailable (appears dimmed), click
Start, click Run, type attrib +S
+R c:\windows\fonts in the Open box, and then
click OK.
- Continue with the following steps.
To reinstall the Georgia font files:
- Press SHIFT, and then insert Disc 1 into the CD-ROM or
DVD-ROM drive.
- Click Start, and then click
Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click
Fonts.
- Right-click Georgia, and then click
Delete.
Repeat this step for each of the following
fonts:
- Georgia Bold
- Georgia Bold-Italic
- On the File menu, click Install
New Font.
- Navigate to the root directory of Disc 1.
- Select the following fonts :
- Georgia.ttf
- Georgiab.ttf
- Georgiai.ttf
- Georgiaz.ttf
- Click OK to confirm the
installation.
If this does not resolve the issue, or if the Georgia*.ttf
files are not on your CD, go to Method 4.
Method 4: Delete Duplicate Georgia Font Entries
- Click Start, and then click
Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, click Appearance
and Themes.
- In the See also pane, click
Fonts.
- In the list of fonts, locate and delete any duplicate
Georgia fonts.
If this does not resolve the issue, go to Method 5.
Method 5: Change Pointer Scheme to Windows Standard or Default
- Click Start, point to
Settings, and then click Control
Panel.
- Double-click Mouse.
- Click the Pointer tab.
- In the Scheme box, click Windows
Standard or Windows Default, and then click
OK.
If this does not resolve the issue, go to Method 6.
Method 6: Remove and then Reinstall MSXML 4.0 (Microsoft XML Core Services)
Part 1: Remove MSXML 4
- Click Start, and then click
Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, click Add or
Remove Programs.
- In the list of installed programs, click MSXML4
Parser, and then click Remove.
- Click Yes to confirm the
removal.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the
removal process.
Part 2: Reinstall MSXML 4
- Hold down the SHIFT key, and then insert Disc 2 into your
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
- In the root of the CD-ROM, double-click
Msxml.
- Double-click Msxmlenu.msi.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the
installation process.
- When the installation process is complete, restart your
computer.
If this does not resolve the issue, visit the following
