SUMMARY

The current date and/or time can be entered into a Works for Windows Database or Spreadsheet by using the following keystrokes:

EffectKeystroke
Current dateCTRL+SEMICOLON
Current timeCTRL+SHIFT+SEMICOLON

The NOW function in Microsoft Works for Windows allows you to have the current date and/or time display in a database field. The formula to enter this data is:

=now()

The fields would need to be formatted in an appropriate date and time format. Every time the database is opened, the system date and time will be entered in every record. To time stamp a record with the current date or time, use the current date or time entry.

These entries will not change when the database is opened. Enter this data using the keystrokes noted above.

MORE INFORMATION

If the NOW function is entered as a formula in a field, you can override this with another valid date or time entry. When a field is entered in a new record, the fields that have a formula with the NOW function are filled with the current system date or time. Go to that field and press the appropriate current-date or current-time key combination. That information will not be changed upon opening the file at a later time. Any record that did not have the entry for the date or time applied in the key combination method is updated.
