SYMPTOMS

If you enter transactions in the Account Register instead of the account transaction forms, you enter a value in the Payment field, and then try to include a deposit value, such as "0" or any other value, the payment value is deleted.

CAUSE

Microsoft Money does not permit you to enter amounts into both the Payment and the Deposit fields on a single line.

Microsoft Money transactions can be either a payment or a deposit, but not both.

MORE INFORMATION

If a transaction is a combination of two different transaction types, such as a deposit with cash returned, the transaction should be split into the two (or more) individual components by entering it as a split transaction.

For example, an $800.00 deposit transaction based on a $1000.00 check with $200.00 cash returned should be split as follows:
  1. Create a new transaction.

Enter a payee name in the Payee field or the Pay To field.
  2. Enter 800.00 in the Payment field or the Amount field.
  3. Type Split in the Category field or press CTRL+S.

The Split Transaction dialog box appears.
  4. Enter your data:
          Description Amount

          Pay check 1000.00
cash returned (200.00) () indicate negative

          Amount unassigned 0.0 1000.00 - 200.00 = 800.00,
                                             the transaction deposit amount
