SUMMARY

"Visually merged" windows are multiple projects that have been merged into one window by choosing New Window from the Window menu. You can visually merge projects into one window when you want to see the information from all projects together, or want to print a report that includes the information for all projects as though they were a single project.

MORE INFORMATION

The following limitations apply to visually merged windows:

  1. A maximum of 2000 tasks can be displayed in one window for Project versions 1.00 and 1.10 and 10000 tasks for version 3.00. This means, for example, that if you merge two projects having a combined total of more than 2000 tasks while using either Project version 1.00 or 1.10, only the first 2000 will be visible.

Even though only 2000 tasks are actually visible, the other tasks are still present in memory. Through the use of filters and sorting, you can choose which 2000 tasks (out of your combined total for all merged projects) will be displayed at any given time.
  2. A report that is printed from a visually merged window will contain information for the visible 2000 or 10000 tasks or resources respectively. Any tasks or resources beyond the 2000 that are visible will not be included in the report.
  3. Projects will be merged in the order that they appear in the New Window list box, which in turn reflects the order in which the projects were originally opened. Therefore, if you want to merge Project1 and Project2, and you want Project2 to appear first, then you must open Project2 before Project1.
  4. The following Edit commands are not available in visually merged windows:

Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete, Insert, and Link

  5. The following File commands are not available in visually merged windows:

Resources, Save, Save As, and Links

  6. Use of the Outline feature is disabled. The outline icons will not appear on the icon bar.
  7. You can change information about a task or resource using the Task Form or the Resource Form. You can save changes made to tasks or resources in a visually merged window by closing the visually merged window, then saving the individual project files.
  8. If you choose Close from the File menu while a visually merged window is active, all of the merged project files will be closed. To close the visually merged window without closing the project files, choose Close from the Window's control menu, or press CTRL+F4.
  9. If you print a Summary Report of the merged project files, the report only contains information from the first project in the visually merged window.
