This article was previously published under Q70867 SYMPTOMS
Trying to increase the amount of text returned by OSQL or ISQL to more than
4K using the SET TEXTSIZE statement does not work.
CAUSE
Using the SET TEXTSIZE command with any value greater than 4096 has no
effect on the actual amount of text that is returned from a SELECT
statement issued through OSQL or ISQL. Although the syntax allows you to set
the TEXTSIZE value to be greater than 4K, the actual maximum that this can
be set to in OSQL and ISQL is 4K. You can, however, use the SET TEXTSIZE
statement to set the TEXTSIZE to a value smaller than 4K.
WORKAROUND
Note that this is not an issue in a DB-Library (DB-Lib) application. If you
are writing an application that will select data from a column with text
datatype, by default you will only get the first 4K of data back. However,
this can be changed by using the DBTEXTLIMIT and DBTEXTSIZE options.
