SUMMARY

This article describes the known gameplay-related issues that you may experience when you play Combat Flight Simulator 3.

MORE INFORMATION

The following list describes known gameplay-related issues in Combat Flight Simulator 3.
  • Tracers and Gunsights

When you fire guns from the turret positions inside aircraft, the tracers may not line up exactly with the gunsight.
  • Campaign Headquarters Transfers

In campaigns, you may want to transfer the headquarters (HQ) to which your squadron is assigned to improve your position along the front. Note that you can transfer only to HQs that are of the same nationality as your pilot. For example, if you are a British pilot, you can transfer your squadron only to another British HQ.
  • Warp

Warp quickly moves your aircraft to the next waypoint or objective. The autopilot flies your aircraft so that it arrives at exact waypoints. For example, you may be at 20,000 feet, but warping may leave you at 6,500 feet. This occurs because the waypoints have a specified altitude (for example, 6,500 feet), and warp pilots your aircraft to arrive at that altitude.

Note that if you activate warp while you are in a tight turn or in some other maneuver, you may come out of warp in a disoriented position. Activate warp only when you are flying straight and level.
  • Tactical Display

Although the tactical display may look similar to a radar screen, it actually reflects the visual capabilities of your pilot. Objects appear in the tactical display only if they fall within the visual range of your pilot.
  • Goal Text

When you fly over a mission goal target, you see purple text displayed over an object. This purple text is a number that represents the percentage of the goal that remains (not a measure of the health of the object). For example, if your goal is to destroy two ships in a group of ships, and you completely destroy one ship, the text that is displayed is 50%.
  • Turning Off an Engine

To turn off an aircraft engine, lean the mixture so that the engine shuts off. To do this, press CTRL+SHIFT+F6.
  • Jettisoning Ordnance or Drop Tanks

It is documented in Combat Flight Simulator 3 Help that you must press SHIFT+J to jettison ordinance. However, the jettison action for ordnance is actually a two-step procedure:
    1. Press SHIFT+S to select the weapon that you want to jettison.
    2. Press CTRL+J to jettison the weapon.
To jettison drop tanks, press CTRL+SHIFT+D.
  • Understanding Checklist Values and Ranges

Checklist values are rounded to the nearest number, and they include ranges of numbers. This allows for small performance differences among aircraft variants, whose numbers may differ by a small degree.
  • Single Players Are Always in the Lead Aircraft

Users in single-player mode always fly the lead airplane in a formation.
  • Reloading Rockets

Note that you will run out of rockets even when you select unlimited ammo. This permits pilots to lighten their planes for air-to-air combat. To reload rockets, press SHIFT+J.
  • Initial Delays When You Display Checklists or Start Help

When you display an aircraft checklist or start Combat Flight Simulator 3 Help for the first time while you are flying, the game pauses for a short time (up to a few seconds) before the checklist or Help is displayed. This does not occur the next time or in any later instances in which you display a checklist or start Help.
  • Changing Views with the Hat Switch

To switch between panning and snap-to views by using the hat switch, press the SCROLL LOCK key.
  • Escort Missions In Quick Combat

Enemy fighters in Quick Combat escort missions start at a distance and altitude relative to the bombers that they are trying to intercept, not to you. As a result, the Enemies are advantaged, Enemies are disadvantaged, and Enemies are neutral options do not apply to these enemy fighters.
