FIX: Cluster Service Stops Responding During Startup When NFS Server is Present (330601)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Services for Unix 3.0
This article was previously published under Q330601 SYMPTOMS Microsoft Cluster Service stops responding during startup when Server for
NFS is installed and running. When a Windows cluster node restarts, the cluster
service may record an event in the event log that states that the cluster database
is corrupted. CAUSE Server for NFS keeps an open handle to the cluster database
even when Microsoft Cluster Service is not running.RESOLUTION A
supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to
correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems
that are experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem
immediately, download the fix by clicking the download link later in this
article or contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix. For a
complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone numbers and
information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site: Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for
support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines
that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will
apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the
specific update in question.

STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft
products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
MORE INFORMATIONAfter the hotfix is installed, Server for NFS will open a handle to the
cluster database only if the cluster service is running. If the cluster
service is not running, Server for NFS will periodically check the status of
the cluster service to determine whether it was started. This process is to make sure that the
replication of the configuration data to all cluster nodes occurs.
