SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Windows Server 2003, the 12 function keys (F1 through F12) do not work during the text-mode portion of Setup. When you press the F8 key to agree to the End User License Agreement (EULA), nothing happens and you cannot continue Setup.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you have a Microsoft Office Keyboard installed. If you use the Office Keyboard, you can use the standard functions for the F1 through F12 function keys or you can program other functions for these keys. By default, when you start the computer, the keyboard uses the programmed functions for the F1 through F12 keys.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, press the F LOCK key on the Office Keyboard, and then continue Setup. When you press F LOCK, the keyboard uses the standard functions for the F1 through F12 keys.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
