"Could Not Complete Installation or Removal of the Network Monitor Tools Component Because the System Must First Be Rebooted" Error Message When You Try to Install Network Monitor (329442)

This article was previously published under Q329442 SYMPTOMS When you try to install Microsoft Network Monitor version
2.0 or Microsoft Network Monitor version 2.0 Lite, you may receive the
following error message: Could not complete installation
or removal of the Network Monitor Tools component because the system must first
be rebooted. CAUSE This problem occurs if you performed the following steps:
- You removed Network Monitor 2.0 Lite.
- You did not restart your computer.
- You tried to install Microsoft Network Monitor 2.0 or
Microsoft Network Monitor 2.0 Lite.
You are not prompted to restart the computer after you
remove Network Monitor 2.0 Lite, but you have not completely removed the
program until you restart the computer.
WORKAROUND To work around this problem, restart the computer after you
remove Network Monitor 2.0 Lite. After the computer has restarted, install the
program.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Network Monitor version 2.0
Lite for Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
