SUMMARY
MMIS 2002 is not supported for installation on an Exchange 2000 server. MMIS installs and uses a different version of DSAccess that may destabilize Exchange 2000. DSAccess is the component that builds and maintains a list of domain controllers and global catalog servers.
If you try to install Microsoft Mobile Information Server (MMIS) 2002 on an Exchange 2000 server, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Microsoft Mobile Information Server cannot be installed on the same machine as Exchange 2000. Install it on another machine.
-or-
The ActiveSync Components for Mobile Information Server cannot be installed on a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
-or-
The Exchange 5.5 Data Provider must be installed on a Microsoft Mobile Information Server. Select the Microsoft Mobile Information Server to Install it.
Only the following MMIS components are supported on an Exchange 2000 server:
- Exchange Notifications (including all subcomponents) - This component provides push notifications from Exchange 2000.
- Administrative Tools (including all subcomponents) - This component allows user and system configuration.
The following MMIS components are not supported on an Exchange 2000 server:
- Mobile Information Server - This component is a core application of MMIS and Outlook Mobile Access that allows a Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) search of an Exchange 2000 mailbox.
- Microsoft Server ActiveSync (including all subcomponents) - This component provides for synchronization to Exchange 2000 mailboxes. Microsoft Server ActiveSync is available only on MMIS 2002.
- Outlook Mobile Access for Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 - This component provides synchronization to Exchange Server mailboxes. This must be installed on an MMIS server.
