SUMMARY

Host Integration Server 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) does not update an existing version of Trcservr.exe when SP1 is installed on a Host Integration Server 2000 server.

Trcservr.exe is a diagnostic version of Snaservr.exe that Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) may require when PSS troubleshoots Host Integration Server 2000 issues.

Trcservr.exe is not copied to the Host Integration Server 2000 system directory (%SNAROOT%) during the installation of Host Integration Server 2000. The existence of Trcservr.exe in the %SNAROOT% directory indicates one of the following:
  • Trcservr.exe was manually copied from the \Support\Trcservr directory of the Host Integration Server 2000 CD-ROM.
  • A Host Integration Server 2000 hotfix was installed that contained an updated Snaservr.exe. Hotfix packages that contain an updated Snaservr.exe also contain a matching Trcservr.exe.
Because Trcservr.exe is not copied to the %SNAROOT% directory during the installation of Host Integration Server 2000, the SP1 Update program is not designed to install Trcservr.exe.

The Host Integration Server 2000 SP1 version of Trcservr.exe is included in the \Support\Trcservr directory of the SP1 CD-ROM, and the 50SP1Full.exe package is at the following location:

By default, Trcservr.exe is never loaded by Host Integration Server 2000. To use Trcservr.exe, you must follow these steps:
  1. Stop the SNA Server service.
  2. Rename or backup Snaservr.exe.
  3. Rename Trcservr.exe to SnaServer.exe.
  4. Start the SNA Server service.
Before you use Trcserver.exe, its version must be verified to make sure that the version matches the version of Snaservr.exe that is in use on the Host Integration Server 2000 server. You can use Snaver.exe to verify the version of Host Integration Server 2000 binaries. Follow these steps to check the version of Trcserver.exe and SnaServer.exe:
  1. Open the Host Integration Server Version Info (Snaver.exe) utility.
  2. Click Browse to list the files in the %SNAROOT% directory.
  3. Select the file (SnaServer.exe or Trcservr.exe) that needs the version information verified.
  4. Click Open.
  5. The version information of the file is listed in the following format:
