SYMPTOMS

After you install the Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 Software Development Kit (SDK) on a computer that has an Intel Pentium IV processor or a dual processor, you may experience problems that include but are not limited to, the following when you use Microsoft eMbedded Visual Basic that targets the Pocket PC 2002 emulator:
  • When you use Control Manager, you receive the following error message:
Failed to find suitable Control Manager Server for your device.
  • eMbedded Visual Basic applications are downloaded to the emulator. However, these applications do not start automatically.
  • The eMbedded Visual Basic IDE cannot debug an eMbedded Visual Basic application that runs on the emulator.
These problems occur because the Pocket PC 2002 SDK Setup program did not correctly register the eMbedded Visual Basic packages for the emulator.

RESOLUTION

The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:
DownloadDownload the Fixppcvb.exe package now.

To correct this problem, run the fix that is contained in the Fixppcvb.exe file. The Fixppcvb.exe file contains a Microsoft Windows Script Host (WSH) script that re-registers the eMbedded Visual Basic packages. Run the self-extracting archive to extract the file that contains the script, and then run the script at a command prompt by using the full path of the Pocket PC 2002 SDK installation location. For usage instructions, run the script without arguments. Release Date: 24-May-2002
