BUG: The 1394 host controller properties dialog box incorrectly shows the Power Management tab (328902)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional

This article was previously published under Q328902

SYMPTOMS

The 1394 host controller properties dialog box incorrectly shows the Power Management tab. Although the "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" check box is not intended to be visible to end-users, you can set this option.

If you click to select the "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" check box, you may put the system in an unreliable state if a 1394 power setting capable node tries to bring the computer off standby.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" check box on the 1394 host controller Power Management tab was incorrectly made visible to users.

Under Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 1394 wait/wake capability is not fully supported by the 1394 host controller drivers, Ohci1394.sys and 1394bus.sys.

RESOLUTION

To prevent the system from being in an unreliable state, clear the "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" check box on the 1394 host controller Power Management tab. When this check box is clear, the 1394 host controller ignores any request by a 1394 power setting capable node to bring the system off standby.
